Hi Joanne,

Phewww thats alot of info lol. I think i get what you mean but if you could take a pic when u get the chance it would be of hug help.

How do you (if needed) decapsulate the egg then?

Do you just feed brine shrimp to dwarfs as books say this is not sufficient?

What pump do you use on enrichment tank? And what enrichment product do you use?

Many Thanks

Alex

Remind me. :D

I don't decapsulate the eggs. I think I have already said but I rinse in tap water then RO before feeding them to the Dwarves to hopefully kill any nasties.

If the brine shrimp is newly hatched or enriched it should be sufficient. I do add copepods and give the babies rotifers though.

I use an aqua one stellar 60 air pump on the enrichment tank. I enrich the brine shrimp with DHA Plus one week (purchased from Simply Seahorses) and Roti-Rich the next week. http://www.zmsystems.co.uk/

Hi Joanne,

Sorry you had indeed mentioned that. Having read the site now again I missed the fact that the eggs were indeed already decapsulated. I have ordered the Artemia franciscana from that site. How long will they last? Roughly? Is the enrichment solution from the same site not much good (Selco Brine Shrimp Enrichment)?

I don't know how long the eggs will last but it will be a long time. Just use too much in one go. You will get used to hatching the right amount eventually. I use about a third of a plastic teaspoon but that will be too much for you. Try a quarter and see how you get on. I use the leftover brine shrimp on my other tanks.

Someone might correct me on this one but I thought that Selco was similar to HUFA. I have the HUFA and although a very good enrichment it is extremely messy and stinks. It pollutes the tank quickly even though I used to rinse it well. I still have some but only use it occasionally.

Here is my brine shrimp set up with the enrichment vessel next to it:

Hi Joanna,

Where do you get your Selco from? I'm really struggling to find anywhere around here, or online that sells it.

Thanks :)

TBH you would be better buying either DHA Plus from Simply Seahorses or Roti Rich. I don't have Selco but I do have some HUFA and I find this very messy and stinky. You can buy Selco here http://www.ta-aquaculture.co.uk/ but it looks very much like the HUFA I have. It put my nitrates up in the tank, despite rinsing the enriched brine shrimp well. I have both DHA Plus and Roti Rich and I alternate the enrichments weekly. I don't know if it makes any difference but I need to use them both anyway. :)
